rail industry, Scomi Rail’s hallmark is its
end-to-end capability in providing a
comprehensive,
customised solution for customers across the globe.
As a key player in the industry, Scomi Rail offers
urban transportation solutions by providing the
latest technology for monorail electro-mechanical
systems and the “rolling stock,” which
refers to the traveling component in a rail system.
Our expertise consists of providing full support
services such as feasibility studies, consultation,
design, planning, implementation, project management,
operation and maintenance advisory services and
systems’ training. As a world-class best practice
organisation, we adhere to international benchmarks
in ensuring the quality and professionalism of our
offerings.
Our range of services comprises:
|
Monorail Design and Engineering
Leveraging on our expertise in design and
conceptualisation, we have the capacity to
design monorail systems for any major city
in the world in accordance to international
standards. Our second generation prototypes
are built specifically to meet the needs of
not just today but tomorrow’s urban
cities, taking into account the need to comply
with Asian market needs while showing considerable
potential to be used in non-Asian markets.
Scomi Rail has obtained a "Certificate of Compliance" from an independent certification consultant for its latest prototype, which demonstrates our commitment to deliver quality products and services to our customers.
In providing cutting edge solutions, we leverage
on our talent in R & D and adopt new technologies
in design and engineering with the goal of
constantly producing better prototypes for
the future. Ultimately, we wish to offer our
customers a superior product with lower acquisition
and maintenance cost as compared to the current
market.

Monorail Manufacture
With our ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facility
in the Rawang Industrial Zone, Malaysia (30km
from Kuala Lumpur), we are able to undertake
in-house production and system testing.
This advanced facility enables us to manufacture,
repair and assemble various "rolling
stock" and parts for the rail industry;
for the production of our in-house monorail
designs; and other types of rail vehicles
of potential partners.
Our comprehensive facility is fully fitted
with high-tech equipment necessary for the
various manufacturing needs. It includes a
5-face machining center, various cutting machines
including a 3D laser-cutter, electrical discharge
machine, Mazak lathes and milling systems,
plastic injection machine, robotic arm welding
center and a variety of metal working machines.
In addition, our manufacturing facility also
serves as a testing centre where prototypes
and finished products are placed under stringent
testing methods to ensure quality meets set
standards. The testing facility includes a
1-km monorail test track built around our
22-acre land for in-house testing and improvisation.

Electrical & Mechanical Systems
In ensuring the safe operation of trains, we have the capability to produce a world-class signalling system designed for human and system protection from possible accidents. We embrace fail-safe principles and proven signalling technology, including an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system to offer a scalable and expandable system that grows with client’s requirements. This ensures continued relevance of the system and significant cost savings in addition to:
Passenger safety and comfort
Operational reliability
Minimal maintenance
Low operating cost |
|
Power Distribution System (PDS)
Scomi Rail also develops Power Distribution
Systems (PDS), which is designed to operate
with all mainline Traction Power Sub Station
(TPSS), which supplies power to the monorail
system. Through a fully insulated power rail,
the PDS supplies power to the:
Vehicles
Passenger safety systems
Required electrical power to facilities
such as the power supply, traction power,
SCADA and auxiliary power
Adopting parallel connections, our self-designed
PDS is able to deliver improved voltage regulation.
The parallel connections provide alternate
feeding paths to the vehicles, spreading the
load more evenly among substations and increasing
the system receptivity to regeneration.

Communication Systems
A wide range of communications systems are needed
in a successful mass transit system to ensure
that passengers are informed, comfortable, safe,
secure and confident about operations of the
network.
The Communication Transmission System (CTS) provided by Scomi Rail integrates the following rail sub-systems:
Telephone systems
Radio systems
Public Announcement (PA) systems
Passenger Information system
CCTVs
Security door access
Fire alarm and prevention
Data networks
Automatic fare collection
Master clock

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system is designed to provide real-time remote monitoring and control over the operating status of sub-systems in stations, power substations and depots from the system Operation Control Center (OCC).
Our SCADA system is modular based and allow for scalability and high level of customisation and availability. It is configured to comply with established international standards for ease of future integrations, expansions and replacements.
The configurations of the SCADA server carried out by Scomi Rail ensures redundant configuration, which provides interfaces to the following sub-systems in standby mode:
Communication Systems:
- PABX system (alarm monitoring)
- CCTV system (monitoring and control)
- PA system (monitoring and control)
- Radio system (monitoring and control)
AFC system
Fire alarm system
Security alarm system
Master clock

Automated Fare Collection
An end-to-end system that completely automates
the process of collecting fares; issuing and
checking validity of tickets and collecting
sales and passenger data, by operating virtually
100% without human intervention. The system
reduces the possibility of human error and security
issues such as fraud.
This also ensures a reduced headcount to minimise
fixed costs and by operating as a closed system,
tickets can be recycled to further reduce cost
while remaining environmentally friendly.
Scomi Rail’s AFC system comprises:
Analyser Dispenser (A/D), operated by
the station attendant, or Ticket Vending
Machine (TVM) to issue tickets
Automatic Gate (AG) to ensure ticket validity
when the passengers cross over to the platform, to board the train
Central Computer System (CCS), through
the Station Computer System (SCS), to receive
data generated from terminal units, and
aggregate sales reports and passenger data
